Singers to hold sway in new programme

A new musical programme is set to go on air on ATN Bangla at 8:45 pm on alternative Mondays. The first episode begins tonight. The programme is directed by Rumana Afroz and hosted by singer Bappa Majumdar. 

Each episode will feature a guest singer who will discuss his or her experience in the course of their career. Close colleagues as well as fans would get to express their views on the selected artistes. Shakila Zafar is the guest of the first episode. The noted singer will talk about her 30-year innings in the world of music.

Humayun Ahmed’s play “Gandha” on ATN Bangla

TV play “Gandha” will be aired tonight on ATN Bangla at 8:45pm. Based on a story by noted litterateur Humayun Ahmed, the play has been scripted by Bandana Kabir and directed by Abir Khan. The cast includes Taquir Ahmed, Mim, Abul Kashem and Dr. Ejaz.

The story line: While awaiting execution, Karim recalls his beloved deceased wife Jamuna, particularly their wedding night when he had requested her for a heavy quilt. 

By 9 pm a constable enters the cell with his favourite food. A Maulvi comes late at night for Karim's last confessions. The executor is called Ramzan.

In his last moments, Karim senses a familiar smell, which the jailer says is of a 'bidi.' Karim associates the smell with his dead wife. An amazing revelation emerges.

Drama serial Karo Kono Neeti Nai on ATN Bangla

Drama serial "Karo Kono Neeti Nai" will be aired tonight on ATN Bangla at 8pm. Written and directed by Saiful Islam Mannu, the cast of the serial includes Ferdausi Majumder, Subarna Mustafa, Humayun Faridee, Al Mamun, Saberi Alam, Zakia Bari Mamo, Tinni, Shams Sumon, Mita Nur, Dolly Zahur, Mita Chowdhury, Dilara Zaman and others.

Mamota is a middle-aged woman from a well-off family. A widow, Mamota has two sons and three daughters. The eldest son lives abroad. The other son, Babu, lives with her. Mamota does not particularly get along with Babu's wife Mariam, who is from a less affluent background. Ruhi, the eldest of Mamota's daughters, is married to a police officer. Mira, another of Mamota's daughters, is also married and has two children. The serial begins with the wedding of Ripa, the youngest of Mamota's daughters. 

The second episode of the serial will be aired tonight.

Drama serial Batasher Ghar on ATN Bangla

Drama Serial " Batasher Ghar" will be aired tonight on ATN Bangla at 8pm. Written by Mujtaba Ahmed Murshed and jointly directed by Mijanur Rahman Labu and Abeer Khan, this is the third episode of the serial. 

The serial centres on three elderly people, Taleb, Imran and Jamil. All the three men are in conflict with their families as their mindsets are completely different from their respective family members. Take for instance, Taleb, who is not prepared to sacrifice worldly pleasures merely because he is old. However, his wife is completely immersed in religion. Then there is the lonely Imran who seeks out the company of the neighbourhood children. However, the children are completely disinterested in the old man.

Meanwhile, Jamil's son blames him for his mother's death. The trio decide to break free of their oppressive environments and begin new lives by donning the disguise of young men. The story begins to unfold…
