Cultural correspondent / May 4, 2009

Bhavya and Rajdeep, two contestants of the musical talent hunt competition called India Indian Idol-4 rocked the audience at a concert at Dhaka Sheraton in the city on Saturday. It was organised by Shalook Events

Bhabya Pandit who finished 10th in the Indian Idol-4 came first on the stage and sang eight tracks of Hindi films one after another. She sang ‘Aja nachle’, ‘Dance pe chance marle’, ‘Sajna ve sajna’ and ‘Chhamiya’. She also enthralled the audience by singing ‘Lal meri pat’ a song of the legendary singer Runa Laila of Bangladesh.

Rajdeep Chatterjee, the 4th idol in the talent hunt programme, performed ten tracks in the concert from Hindi films. He also sang band songs and Panjabi bhangra. He delighted the audience by singing ‘Ya Ali’, ‘Soniyoo’, ‘Veegi veegi’ and ‘Piya re’. The audience also enjoyed the songs ‘Baranday roddur’ a popular song of the Kolkata-based music band Bhumi. The Panjabi bhangra also delighted the audience.

A section of the audience were annoyed about the mismanagement of the organisers as the programme started at 8:30pm which was scheduled to begin at 6:00pm. ‘Performances of the Indian artistes were enjoyable but the sound system was poor. Munna, a listener, told New Age.

The organisers hoped that music performances of the young Indian artistes in our country will make a cultural link between the singers of the two countries.
